Alton Brown served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought at the Anzio beachhead in Italy, where he was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. He and his wife, Elda, who served in the U.S. Navy WAVES, are laid to rest at Holly Hill Veterans Cemetery.
