Staff Sergeant Robert Glen McArthur was born April 8, 1924, in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He enlisted in the Air Corps on November 2, 1942, and became a B-17 flight engineer and gunner. A captioned crew photograph places him with Capt. Jack W. Watson’s crew aboard B-17G “Thru Hel’en Hiwater,” #42-39785, of the 358th Bomb Squadron. Newspaper accounts credit him with 29 missions over continental Europe and honors including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He later served again during the Korean War era. At Holly Hill, Robert rests with his wife, Georgia Daniels McArthur.
