THEIR STORY
Stephen Lanier Johnson, known throughout Blairsville as “The Squirrel Man,” was a U.S. Army veteran and a familiar presence at Meeks Park for more than twenty years. He became known for patiently teaching children and adults about squirrels, birds, snakes, and caring for wildlife. He died on August 18, 2026, at age 77. A graveside service with military honors was held at Holly Hill Veterans Cemetery on August 24, 2026.
